I'll be making my first BB purchase next week. I'll be dropping a regional carrier and switching to Alltel. I'm excited about getting my first BB I hear great things about the Curve. Should I get the 8330 ($100 with rebate) or move up to the 8900?

    Thanks for any input.

If you don't mind the price difference, go with the 8900.
Cheers to the WiFi and GPS, and 256 MB Memory.. and 4.6 OS.

U should get a 8330 with Sprint bcuz they r only $49.99 after instant savings and a mail in rebate. Something to think about bcuz Sprint has better service.

    Maybe in your area.
If alltell has better coverage in his area, that would be his better choice.

Umm, you can't use the 8900 on Altell! Since Altell is a CDMA carrier and the 8900 is currently only available as a GSM phone, they won't work together!

My bad, I didn't know Alltell is CDMA, I really shouldn't comment on US carriers I know nothing about.

Other option is to wait for the Tour.

It's going to be a work horse.

Maddmaxx, for future reference, Verizon, Altell and Sprint are CDMA carriers. AT&T and T-Mobile are GSM carriers.

Before anything decide which carrier works best in your area, Alltel/VZW or T-mobile or At&t depending on which carrier your getting the 8900 for?

8900 if you are in a great coverage area for that phone.

Also I can that Verizon has been nothing but extraordinary with their customer support and coverage. If you do decide to go with Atell/Verizon wait a bit longer for the Tour or maybe even the Storm 2

Thanks for the help! Alltel/Verison has a very good rep in my area. My company does work w/ a local Alltel location and we know them pretty well. What's the diff between CDMA and GSM carriers? (Guess I can check that on my own unless someone has a quick answer).

Quick answer, GSM carriers require a SIM card for their phones to work.

If I was you go for the best that you can afford. I had an 8300 as it was the only curve available here and I needed a new phone but as soon as I became eligible for upgrade I went for the Bold.

The 8330 is without doubt a good phone but the 8900 is marketed as the next generation curve so stands to reason it's a better phone.

My recommendation would be speak to your carrier and make sure they support the 8900 and if so go for that phone.

It's pretty clear that the carrier (Altell/CDMA carrier) their wanting to use the 8900 (GSM phone) on will not support it! So save yourself some time and don't even have that convo with Altells CS, cause no matter what, the outcome you want to happen will not happen.

I was in a local Best Buy yesterday and they have the Sprint 8330 for 39.99 w/ 2 year agreement. It might be worth a look. Also they will give you the VZW 8330 for 49.99 w/ 2 year agreement which is the VZW online price and you won't have to mess with the 70.00 rebate.

Thanks for the help everybody. Looks like Alltel doesn't offer the 8900 in my area (if at all). My local guy said he'd match a better offer and I see VZW is offering the 8330 at $49.99. This should be just fine for starting out. I'll pick it up next week and keep everyone posted. Thanks again. I appreciate all the input.
