Last week I posted that I was having issues connecting to Wi-Fi. I had resigned to the fact that this was a handset problem and returned.

I have bought a brand new 8900 today, unbranded/unlocked and brand new. I am having the exact same issue: Not able to connect to my Wi-Fi at home, the Wi-Fi logo is always greyed out and won't switch to UMA from GPRS. Inside Manage Connections, it shows my SSID in green [also shows this on my home screen] but where there should be a green tick, I get a white dash.

Other same issues include no 'Connection Preference' option in the Data Network options. Also it doesn't seem to connect to the BlackBerry infrastructure. I get a big red 'X'. Orange have assured me that I do have a data plan and I am able to receive e-mails but this Wi-Fi issue just doesn't resolve itself. I have another BB, 8820 and it works perfectly on there, I can connect to Wi-Fi with no problems.

In my router settings, it shows that the BlackBerry is connected in 'Attached Devices'.

This is the second handset this has happened with, I don't know what is wrong.

Check the WiFi and UMA Guide links in my signature.

Also, since you have an Unbranded device, UMA will not work. As I mentioned to you in your last thread, you need a device that is the same brand as the carrier you are using for the UMA to work.

Wifi symbol that is greyed out is not connected to your router... we all know that correct??? It sounds like all this testing has been done with ONE router... is that correct, or have you had this issue with multiple routers???
