I have a blackberry 8330. When I save a contact number it auto defaults to work. I have to re-enter the same number in mobile then erase the work field. Is there a way to set the default contact save number type to mobile?

No there isn't a way to do this. The reason it's like that is cause Blackberry's were mainly only business devices as opposed to what they are today. Guess RIM has never thought about changing it either since it's still like that.

However, there are 3rd party apps that will allow you to have the functionality I'm sure you desire - which would be to add a # from an incoming call or outgoing call to either the home, work or mobile field (not to mention you can format the number how you'd like it to appear as well). Some that come to mind are 'AddToContact' and 'SaveNumberAs'. Look them up - should do the trick.
