As far as I know you can walk right in and buy it,You might be better off buying the unlocked unit for $330 that way it's already unlocked and with tax and paying to unlock it,It could cost more than $330

just purchased one last night at T Mobile store for $299.

If you pay full price you can contact them and fax in the receipt to prove outright purchase. They should then give you an unlock code for free. If not, you can buy unlock codes on ebay for a few dollars that work. Not much money to get it unlocked.
