Hey guys..looks like RIM looked over such a simple feature...that is to be able to switch the profile utilizing the volume rocker keys....
when you are not on a phone call, those keys are useless....they don't do anything!
is it possible to program a code that will allow you to set those keys as a shortcut while not being on a phone call? and when you're on a phone call...allow them to switch volume as normal?
or are there technical boundaries we can't cross with this?
I'm sorry but how hard is profile switching.
Natively, convenience key or turning off Dial from Home screen.
All 3 methods literally takes seconds to accomplish. Why does
there need to be an app?

you're missing the point...the point is that if we could assign the volume keys to something else when you're not speaking with someone, this would allow you to have 2 more convenience keys
convenience key #1 takes place for my browser..#2 is for email....which are also as important
It would be nice to utilize the volume buttons as more convenience keys when phone is not in use
Sorry but really I didn't miss the point. I actually got the point
you were making. But seeing how as there are multiple ways
to perform many functions, it seems a solution to a problem
that does not exist.
With Dial from home screen turned off I can get to my browser
by pressing "B" and so on.
This of course is only my opinion..

not have an argument about it OK.
whoaa dude..having a bad morning? who said we're even having an arguement
i thought i could only assign keyboard keys to contacts?
I didn't say we were having an argument and edited my post
to take that out. And my morning is just fine. In 4 hours I'm
cooking breakfast for my little girl and her 5 friends. Can't possibly
get better than that
I just know how these things can go off the rails in a hot minute
and wanted to preemptively avoid that.
Let me see if I can find the thread for the k/board shortcuts.

From the OP's viewpoint, I think it just boils down to being able to use every available button on the phone for something. W/ dialing from home screen turned off, there isnt anything I cant do just by pushing a letter.
Ok, I turned off dial from home screen...however if i still press a button it asks me to assign it to speed dial..confused
sorry..i'm coming from a treo

on OS 4.5 the volume keys allow you to change songs when listening to the media player, so they arent totally useless. If you don't use the media player then yes they are
I was thinking this same thing the other day! Glad someone posted it. The last few phones I've owned have had this feature and I find it very convenient as I am in and out of meetings all day. I would def purchase this app if it became available

That is one aspect of BlackBerry's I have never fully understood , the apparent lack of use for the volume rocker.........imagine the possibilities if it were programmable like the convenience keys.

If you are using either Today or Zen themes (not Icon) then the quick way to get to Profiles is to go to the Home screen (Not the Application Desktop screen) and flick the trackball to the right and click it. Voila, you're in Profiles. Obviously from the Desktop, you click the icon.
turning the dial from home screen is nifty..however those shortcuts are only for built in standard programs....if you use a lot of 3rd party apps....the 2 convinience keys are not enough...

Sorry I wasn't clear, the volume is still the same when pressed, if you hold down the volume up button it skips track forward and down is backward. It sometimes sucks if you just want to turn up the volume and forget and it switches the track on you.

Of course I knew that, who said I didn't <.<
Good info, I have been digging the BB out of the holster and pressing "N" for the next(random) track while driving. This will be much more convenient, and I'm sure other drivers will thank you for giving me this info, thus making the world a safer place =D
