Like a lot of other people I am undecided between the Bold the Curve 8900 or wait for the 9700. I keep going back and forth. Whatever decision I make it will be my first smartphone of any kind.

Do I buy now and begin the learning process or wait a few months for the 9700 and lose the time? If I do buy now then which, the Bold or 8900, is the better to get started on and possibly have for 2 years before an upgrade?

After spending time on this forum I am ready for something.

ok well let me start my long post with this (please excuse lack of punctuation and mistypes i am on my iphone lol)

have your tried the 8900 and bold keyboards?

    curve 8900
    -pro's
480x360 screen (nice and high res)
256mb of ram lots of room for apps and running the phone
    small size very pocketable
    3.2 mp autofocus camera
    -cons
    no 3g
512mhz processor vs the bolds 624mhz
    some don't like keyboard

    Bold 9000
    -pros
    very solid design
big screen 480x320(not as high res as 8900 but you can't tell but the bold is physically larger)
keyboard is bigger more comfortable to some.
    has 3g
    fast 624mhz processor
    -cons
    some find too big
only 128mb as ram half as much as curve 8900
    2.0mp fixed focus camera

now there are other differences but mainly fall into the realm of preference and the bold has bigger built in storage for music but its only 1gb and you can get a 2gb card for 15 bux so it would more than equal out.

    now for the 9700 onyx
for true specs i would go over to the onyx subforums it is covered there but it will use the bold style keyboard but with a trackpad instead of a trackball if you are curious to what the trackpad is go look for a youtube video of the curve 8520 it is first BB with a trackpad.

So all this considered the bold and 8900 are not even a year old so you will get plenty of life out of them since people still use the original curve 83xx series which is over 2 years old i believe. So blackberry's do have a good life to them.

Rumor has it onyx will drop before the end of this year. So if you like the trackpad idea and can wait i would. I am a gadget nut so i already have a bold im buying an 8900 soon and will be getting the onyx lol but not everyone is the same way lol. if you do not like trackpad or can't wait the bold and 8900 are great devices!!! and you can't go wrong with either one head over to your local store and try them out to see which feel you like and go with that one. you won't regret your decision as a first time smartphone owner they are bother great! with no real flaws.

I would suggest waiting for the 9700. If you try it out and don't think it's for you (who are we kidding though, this phone looks pretty awesome), then you can get the Bold/8900 after it's price drop.

def true i think the one thing is some people might not want a trackpad so that what you really have to decide on.

I would suggest buying the 8900. It is a great phone and if you decide you still want the 9700 when it arrives you can sell the 8900 for good money and get the 9700. Best of both worlds

I would wait for the 9700. When being locked into a two year contract it is always best to have the latest handset, particular when you are only talking a couple of months.

hmmmmm, I am not sure what you are getting at boomhower. why would getting the 8900 lock them into a contract unless they signed a new contract. The 8900 will be able to be sold for very good money in a couple months if it isn't damaged and then you could buy the 9700 for another 100 bucks. I just sold my wifes 8900 for $450, the 9700 will probably be $499, I don't see how this can be a losing situation if you are ready for a new phone?????
