Hey all- I searched, can't find anything on it- so here goes!

I've got a beautiful Becky Mae'd purple 8310 (one of her first!)...I love it, but I've been lusting after the new 8900...but I just can't justify it when mine is under a year old. I finally figured out one of the things that bugs me most about my "older" BB is that his trackball is..well...gross. It's now certifiably yellow. And ontop of that it appears to have gotten etched somehow...but it's not smooth anymore it's got ridges in it. I'm not sure how that happened but sometimes when I go to use it it won't go in the direction I want it to because one of these gouges are preventing it...time for a new trackball.

But I don't want to just get a new white trackball and start this process all over again. I've been looking at the black trackballs and I found something called Berry Ball...they have what basically look like dyed trackballs in different colours...I was thinking with my beautiful purple blackberry a purple trackball would round it off nicely.

Has anyone bought one of these? I'm a little nervous about replacing my trackball to begin with...then again I've opened up my BB about a million times...it can't be much harder than that. Do they stay the colour they come or do they fade/rub off on your fingers? Having purple nail polish is one thing...having purple fingers is a whole other ballgame.

Haven't tried them, but if I remember correctly it's pretty easy to dye your current "yellow" one any color you'd like using fabric dyes. Search for the post about it, but many seem to have great success going that route.

Another option is getting a G1 ball which is black.

I haven't used them either. Here is the thread that B.Wong is referring to.

I just ordered a pink trackball off Ebay from BerryBall. All of the feedback I read was very good...no complaints. I can't wait to get it, but I must admit, I'm a little nervous about the installation.

Thanks guys- I think I'm going to order one from Berry Ball! As I said, my OEM ball appears to have like...gouges...in it from regular use, which I've never heard of before...but I dunno...I must press on it to hard or something cause they're definitely there! Otherwise I'd just dye it like others have said...but I think it's actually time for a new ball.

cnn.cn, berryball.com (ebay seller) or use fabric dye

my friend has a dyed trackball from berryball and the color doesn't rub off on your fingers at all, but i see how it woudl so i thikn it depends on the quality and way the trackball is colored.

Dont be nervous! Just use a toothpick to pry off the chrome bezel and VOILA! your trackball should pop right out and you can replace with new one. There are demos on youtube and such to watch that are very helpful, they were to me. good luck!

I've changed my trackball out a few times now and I've had a black one and now use a purple one, the color is still perfect and it works great!
