After 12 months of enjoying my Blackberry it started randomly shutting off on me. I got a new battery today and it seems all is fixed. Is it better to let the battery run down completely before charging it? I usually put it on the charger every night but maybe that's not the way to go.

You were doing it correctly by charging it frequently. some batteries just have shorter service lives than others.

Letting the Li-Ion batteries drain down to low levels actually shortens their service lives in the long run. So charge frequently, overnight is ok as there is overcharge protection built in.

Thanks a bunch for your reply.
What is the expected life of a battery? I guess a year isn't too bad, just wondering.

Most carriers will say a battery should be replaced after one year, but I think they can go longer. It is normal to have the battery not hold a charge as well the older it gets, so when you decide to replace it is what you deem acceptable battery performance from an older battery.
