What would be the best way to add a large number of contacts to my curve? I need to add about 50-80 contacts and put them in a group as well. Would outlook still be the best way?

I always use Outlook, I have around 400 contacts with many details and it's working fine with me.
From Desktop Manager, Synchronize, and configure synchronization, choose what do you want to synchronize (Contacts, Calendar, Tasks, Notes), and then click synchronize.

Depends on your Org. If you have thosands of entries in your Address book better to filter them on what you need and then you can sync them using gmail wirelessly.
could someone pls explain what this functionality does ? Does it port my outlook contacts into my blackberry phone ?
coz, right now whenever i have to write a mail, i just type in the name of the person i need to mail and select (look up) and it gets me the email id of the person i need to send a mail to .. and i'm on my way.

Yup when you sync your BB with your PC via DM, it synchronises all contacts, calender, tasks from your Outlook to your BB and vice versa.
It means that both your BB and Outlook on the PC will have the same data.
Also, I'm working with a business partner who needs the same exact contacts/text group as me and he also has a blackberry. Is there an easy way for me to transfer to him my contacts/text group without transferring all my contact to him?
