Just saw the sapphire blue 8320 is on AT&T's website now for $150 after rebate. I had given up on this phone and was waiting for the 8900. Guess that might mean the 8900 isn't coming for a bit longer???
As I mentioned on another thread:
Gives them time to launch the 8900, offers another handset at a reasonable price (also offers a different pricepoint BB/phone), fills out the roster a bit more (why not have more options?).
IMHO
I too had thought they were just not going to put the 8320 out there for the public, and had held it back for business customers or something. Strange of them to release it now with the 8900 coming so soon. I guess it doesn't really hurt anything though.
No I am not. There has nothing officially announced. I just found out yesterday that At&t was finally releasing the 8320. I am hearing a possible Dec. release for the 8900 but if we dont see it then, I think it will be here in Jan. It should be soon though.

the 8320s were boxed and shipped to Att corporate about 2 to 3 months ago, the phones were already paid for. I dont deal with att directly but im guessing they dont want to burn potential cash flow so theyre releasing what units they already bought. I can tell you this, that were not making anymore 8320s for them so theyre probably just going to exhaust existing units they already paid for. The 8900 is ready to go awaiting final confirmation by their corporate office, the last ETA i saw was december 22, however that could change until they sell these 8320s off first. This is something unexpected

If AT&T is only selling the 8320 online then that only confirms my information that theyre exhausting supplies, if they launch in retail store then they might be considering delaying the launch of the 8900 by asking us for more 8320 units, however im still optimistic about the 22nd.

It could be earlier since things are moving so fast, but its not our companies fault. Tmobile rejected the Bold and they did not want the curve 8900 earlier than its already set due to potential interference with G1 sales. They still need to verify that the OS is stable enough in their eyes to release.
Sounds like AT&T wants to do another BOLD release schedule.
I'm not quite sure what you're trying to say. No carrier to date has made a big deal about the 8900 and all have soft-launched the device. It's not a brand new device and will not receive the same attention in regards to launch as the Bold or Storm.

I guess what was trying to say is why would a carrier release an inferior model a week or two before a model that will a whole lot better in every way... is it just for the fact that they have been promising to release the 8320 for so long... it just seem that this is just a great way to delay the release of the 8900 (the same way they did with the Bold - maybe not a good analogy).

Ok I see what you're saying. The release of the 8320 wasn't to delay the 8900. It's just that AT&T has had the 20's for months, and the deal was already sealed so they had to release it. I know it doesn't make a whole lot of sense, I wonder what AT&T was thinking also. But I don't think it will affect the 8900 on AT&T.
