I have a new (one week old) BB 8900 and every time I sync it, it says upgrades are available and it lists almost ALL of the built in apps on my BB. It says 4.6 is available yet I have 4.6.1.114 so I don't know if this is new or not since it only says "4.6" I'm not real kean on the idea of making an upgrade when it may not be needed. Suggestions?

4.6.1.114 is older version, I think latest is 4.6.1.250. Before 250 there was a release 231 thats also better as compared to 114, go ahead and upgrade.

T-Mobile's official 8900 OS is currently 4.6.1.231 and can be found on T-Mobile's Blackberry Upgrade website.

Additionally, if you are unfamiliar with upgrading your device you might want to do some reading... first, there is the Blackberry 101 lesson on the subject: blackberry-101-how-install-or-upgrade-new-rim-operating-system-os

Next is the Upgrade/Downgrade procedures link in my signature.

Finally, there is the sticky thread at/or near the top of the 8900 forum page on the last official OS release of 4.6.1.250... read the first post.

I've had my AT&T 8900 for 4 weeks now, the OS is 4.6.1.231

Don't know what .250 has over .231 so I really have no reason at this point to upgrade.

+1, the OS that came with my TMO 8900 seems pretty stable. Won't upgrade until there is an official one

Okay, I've read the sticky on .250 being an official release.

However AT&T still seems to be sticking with .231 . Also there seems to be too many mixed reviews with no real documented improvements on what .250 is supposed to have.
Besides people are upgrading from different versions, not just .231 to .250.

With all that in mind and being a newbie with no gripes, I'll keep things just the way they are. Seems like too many things could go wrong with no real documented benefits.

I found .114 to be a horrible OS version. And has been pointed out, it is dated and has been upgraded to .231 by T-Mobile. My biggest beef with .114 was poor battery performance.

I've upgraded to .250 and I am very happy. Not significant differences between .231 and .250 except that .231 is sanctioned by T-Mobile and .250 isn't. If you think .114 is "stable," you'll probably be quite surprised with ,231 or .250.

There is a LONG thread about .250 in the stickies section of the 8900 forum. You might want to take some time and review that thread.

Since you are with T-Mobile you can download .231 from T-Mobile's Blackberry Upgrade site.

**** EDIT: I had this link in post #3.

I went ahead and updated just so it would stop givng me the notification that there was an update. I also read that this update helped with battery life so I took a chance. I'm always cautious because one time when I updated my phone (8220), I ended up losing all my pre-loaded backgrounds and icons. Fortunately everything went fine. As for the battery, we'll just see about that.

P.S. It upgraded me to 4.6.1.231 (Desktop Mgr went to vrs 5)
