Why are American network providers so expensive?

I am in the UK I get 600 minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited data for 30 (approx. $49) plus 6 for insurance which covers everything (approx. $9) so I pay altogether approx $58 a month!

When I see you spending $99 a month on your phone it scares me, I couldn't imagine ever paying that much for a phone bill.
The area to cover in the US is very large so the network costs are much higher than in the UK. They pass these costs on to the consumers. I also would not rule out greed playing a role either.

My phone service costs $65 a month. On AT&T, a similar service would cost $90 a month. I'll save $300 a year and deal with not having my phone work in some buildings. If there was free WIFI at my school, I would not have one problem with T-Mobile.
