Yes AT&T is getting the 8900. Recently AT&T started pushing out the 8900 specific service books. Which means the release of the device is close.

There are so many netrumors about this. Last one I read said they took it off the menu at ATT. I never thought it was a good idea for they of the "it's all about the 3G" ATT to mess with the 8900. They've got their hands full of 3G Bolds/iPhones IMO. Releasing a brand new EDGE BB will just confuse/tick people off ("hey, my buddy's iPhone has 3G man, how come you charged me $200 for this 2G EDGE pos?"). Can't you hear it now?

Agreed. AT&T has made a point of saying they are going all 3G so I can't see them releasing the 8900 as is.

That being said, I have a T-Mobile 8900 running on AT&T's network and got service books specific to the 8900 pushed out to me last week. So who the **** knows

T-mobile claims to have the 3G built in the 8900 already but i highly doubt it.

If you want to split hairs and consider EDGE as 3G, since it is part of the 3G standard, then the 8900 has 3G. Otherwise, it does not have 3G.

    I had AT&T.. I wouldn't even consider the 8900 (no 3G)...

    so...

now you have no 3G AND no UMA... not very appealing...

If CX says that AT&T is getting the 8900, they are getting the 8900. Personally I'd like to see it. Then we can all wait for the next GSM BB.

yeah i hate carrier exclusive phones...if every carrier could get every phone, they'd have to compete with good customer service and low rates

Wow people are paying $500.00 from t-mobile to have an 8900 to work on AT&T!! Um yeah I will just have to wait.

I paid $350 on craigssslisttt and got it brand new.

I seen it on ebay for over 600 once.. now thats bit pricey.

Exactly... The only reason I'm waiting for this phone on AT&T is that I don't feel like paying $300 (after rebate) for the Bold and this should be a little more affordable when/if it's released. I'm in pretty much the exact same position as the OP, I've had my 8310 for over a year now, and it's def time for a change

I can see AT&T releasing a 3G 8900 which rumored to be called the 9220 or 9300 but I can't at all see them releasing the 8900. AT&T is tuning down its EDGE network, which is what the 8900 runs on, and gearing up its 3G network.

yeah, I forgot to mention that. Youre right.. it would be a variant of the 8900 - just 3G for sure. No more EDGE for ATT.... but the body/size/ and other features would be that of the 8900.

Most writers dont know what they are talking about. I just started getting At&t service books on my unlocked 8900 plus its been in for testing with At&t. They are either going to release it soon or not release it at all. They would not release it at the end of the year. The device would be old technology by then.
