Ok, so there seem to be plenty of you that are completely comfortable with disassembling your berries....

Someone please give me a few pointers on the sequence of this so that I don't royally F something up...

    Appreciaiton given in advance

::Edit:: Please forgive my n00b status.

Wow nicely done there NancyDrew, I too got to the black plastic but it still had the uneven look to it. Maybe I should get me a nail buffer

As for warranty, yea I can always just replace it with a stock chrome one from cnn.cn and it should look new and untampered

im pretty sure you break one of those sticker seals on top of the screw driver when you open it, therefore voiding your warranty

It isnt too hard to keep the sticker intact when taking the 8900 apart.

That is a pretty good job, especially for using improvised tools! You could try a really fine grit sandpaper to smooth it out a little more if you think it needs it.

I'm gonna guess that she used a super-fine grit nail buffer....

    What sticker do you mean?

Yeah I looked for sand paper around the house first but of course didn't have any. Then I saw my nail file and buffer block sitting on the desk and was like duh! I love being a girl....

It sucks that the chrome chips off. If mine does that I think I may try painting also. Where did you all get a screwdriver that small?

I thought you took it apart to sand it. You didn't scratch the rest of your phone?

Nope I didn't take it apart. The nail file is thin so I just worked around the grooves. And the buffer block is so delicate it didn't scratch anything other than the chrome.

Ok, I may well just do this. I mean it's essentially free (I have black paint kicking around), and I can spare a few hours.

I would dearly love to paint my phone as I don't live in the US and can't send to all the places other people have mentioned.

Are there instructions anywhere on how to disassemble my berry safely so I can paint it?

So, if sanding down the black, will the warranty still be intact in case a replacement is needed in the future? I'm assuming it is, but just want to confirm...

Not a safe assumption IMO. I definetely think that would void your warranty.

My chrome started chipping off so I just sanded it all off using my nail buffer lol. Took me like 20 min., it's all black and looks GOOD. I just ordered a black battery door too.
