Try to install through Desktop Manager, not through mobile. In my case that's worked

I'm interested to know how well BBMaps works since that uses actual GPS. Do you use BBMaps?

    TIA

google maps uses the gps as well. Even does on older 8310's. I have not used bb maps since moving to google maps. The difference is that google will detect a fix and use it automatically, while the bb maps you have to turn gps tracking on manually

GMaps uses triangulation with cell phone towers, I believe there's a long thread on it.

I believe without gps it triangulates (blue circle) which is aprox. and with gps you get an actual fix.

Yes indeed, I believe that's correct. That said triangulation for me is off by a LOT in GMaps. It states within 2300 meters, it's off by I'd say about 1.5 miles and 2 major intersections (very scientific units of measurement lol). BBMaps is spot on.

odd, when I run GMaps - it's near spot-on for my actual location, while I'm driving on the highway it advances the dot (which represents me - not my pointer) ever couple seconds... so it appears to be using more than just triangulation - can it somehow use my GPS position without actually having that feature turned on - or does google have magic access to the gps radio?

Not sure, I think I read that starting BBmaps and then using GMaps gave GMaps a GPS signal. Right now I have "within 5000 meters"
Gee, don't be so specific GMaps... :-P

With google maps u should get the first approximation which will be a large area and then it will say "waiting for gps" which will then narrow it down very precisely (within 3 or 5 meters). I find bb maps to be a little slow so I only use google maps. Never had a problem.
