Unfortunately T-mobile is one of the few companies that doesn't have updates available through the RIM website, you just get redirected to the T-mobile website, and they haven't posted the link yet. It says 4.6.1.xxx is their current version.
I think this is why nobody has posted a link yet on CB... You can't get it directly from RIM, and T-mobile hasn't posted the link. So the only way to get it right now is through DM or OTA, but that doesn't do us non T-mobile customers any good
I connected to desktop manager and hit check for updates and it popped up. I normally install through apploader but it installed fine through desktop manager and seems fine on my phone.
Make sure you have your OS installer first, or make a backup of the OS installation folder.
Download 7-zipped archive from here, extract to your 8900 OS installation folder, replace existing files, install with AppLoader.
Note: the OS is incomplete, I copied it from a friend's T-Mobile handset.
Try getting the lastest version of the desktop manager. When you have it installed, go to BlackBerry - Update your Device Software. This is what I have been doing, and it works for me.

Yes but you have T-Mo. most of us don't.
Just wish that either there would be download link on the blackberry website, or that another carrier would release it so i can download it from them, since T-mo is obviously stingy with their OS releases!

If someone with a T-Mobile account (pre-paid accounts don't work, I tried already) can go to the blackberry site and download the OS on their computer and post it. The T-Mobile link for the North American carriers redirects you to T-Mobile site and that is the only way to download it.
Any takers? My carrier is ATT and we know how they are when it comes to releasing current Curve 8900 Operating Systems....smh.... I still be in the 4.7 OS is they didn't force themselves to release 5.0.0.822, the only 5.0 OS they have...

Pardon my ignorance, but why does that make a difference? RIM doesn't release the updates all at once?
RIM releases lots of updates to the carriers... and then it's up to the carriers to decide which ones they make "official."
ATM only Tmobile has made 5.0.0.900 official for the 8900... and the link isn't available through their website or directly from RIM. The only way to get it is through Desktop Manager, and that only works if you have a T-mobile branded 8900.
I've tried 3 times now to update via DM. I've tried on DM6 via Windows and DM Via Mac. The mac gives me an error saying my device doesn't have enough memory...What the heck, I have 128 megs free. And the Windows version, my device shuts off completely and it fails.
And via T-Mobile's site, its still showing 4.5. And of course Blackberry.com doesn't have the link.
Hello there, Im new here. I have a 8520 bb, and I would like to update to .900
My carrier isn't T-mobile. Can I download this 8520wifiM_PBr5.0.0_rel1626_PL5.2.0.96_A5.0.0.900_R ogers_Wireless_Inc.exe and install? it is from rogers Canada, or it must be official from my carrier?
