    You can not use those applications because they require a data plan to function. You can download 3rd party applications to chat that will work over WiFi. BeeJive is one, Palringo is another.

    BIS = Blackberry Internet Services

    If you get unlimited data (email, browsing, etc) if you sign up for an unlimited BIS plan.

    Also don't listen to these guys that say you have to get a Blackberry Data Plan because you don't. The Blackberries today with WiFi combined with the 3rd party applications now available give you the flexibility to simulate much of the things a data plan can do. With that said, I definitely recommend that you do get a data plan as you can enjoy everything a Blackberry was built for: push email and Blackberry Messenger, etc. WiFi will be limited and cannot have these specific features. Also WiFi is limited to hotspot connections whereas the data plan can give you much broader coverage. Also not all 3rd party applications will work without a data plan.

    I hope this wasn't confusing but I just wanted to be sure you know there are options available if you do not want a data plan but it is much better to have a data plan.

    As far as Instant Messenger i might be apple to assist you. I was able to get my niece working doing the following. For T-Mobile customers there is a feature you can add if you are not subscribed to a BlackBerry plan. Its called Feature Enabler, contact customer service and have them provision the free add-on BBVADDON Feature Enabler. This will assist you in Instant Messenger, Issues with MMS on BlackBerry voice only lines. You will need to install the following OZ Instant Messenger (Uses SMS) after T-Mobile BlackBerry support adds the Feature Enabler (Make sure you say BlackBerry Support when you call T-Mobile CS). Hope this helps...
