has anyone had issues with the battery life on their 8900? My boss and I just got the new phones and our batteries won't last the day! I'm thinking it's because our IT department didn't fully charge the battery before installing our emails etc. etc...

Has anyone had this problem? Did I just diagnose my own question? Any advice?

You are probably on an old OS build. I'm on .168 and my battery life is great. Battery life on .133+ has been good.

Check what OS you are running and if it's anything less than .114 I would update it.

Aaaaa.....if you think the battery life on the 8900 sucks, you should get your hands on the Google G1. I was lucky to get three hours out of it! Now THAT sucks!

Mine usually last a day or two, unless I'm really using it heavily. In general my blackberries are pretty good on battery life.

this is my first blackberry and i was so pissed off that the battery drained so quickly. the second time i gave it a full charge, i put it into the pouch, went to sleep, and when i woke up 25% of my battery was gone! then i read about the pouch issue.

now... i still use the pouch, but i make sure i manually put it into standby before that and now it lasts days instead of 1 day.

i had the same problem, battery draining in a day and i didnt even use the 8900 heavily. Figured out that the pouch is the problem a couple of days ago on this forum and since then i didnt use the pouch and havent charged my 8900 and still sitting at 65% !!!

Even if you put it in standby manually and put it in the pouch, the battery drains over a few hours.

To those pointing the finger at the OS (or thinking it).. please know that it's not necessarily always the culprit.

I've been on .94 with my Rogers branded phone from day 1 and once I came to realize my issue was the OEM pouch, I've had no issues with the OS causing poor battery life. In fact, I've gone through every OS upgrade (94 -> 101 -> 114 -> 133 -> 152 -> 168) and there has virtually been no difference in battery life as far as I could tell, and believe me, I'm picky and notice these things

When it's all said and done, standby is your BIGGEST friend in preserving battery life. Plain and simple

That's interesting tho as some have claimed that voice on .168 drains the battery.

Sitting at 35% after 1 day. A little upset with this.. I use standby, use LIGHT wifi (maybe 30 mins), text ~100 a day, 1 hour of music on headphones.. Should I be getting better life?

Is it really that big of an inconvenience to have to charge it every night? I can understand if you have to charge it in the middle of the day, but I always plug my phone in at night, no matter where it is at the end of the day.

Today I was down to 50% after constant wifi use, 10+ MMS messages, taking about 20 pictures, 45 minutes of talk time, 150+ text messages, constantly using twitter and facebook. I consider that pretty good.

Oh, I charge mine every night too. But it's for the time that I have to stay elsewhere and don't have a charger that I fear. I mean I would like a bit of freedom.. lol.
