I just did a random check for any available updates on my 8530 Curve and to my pleasant surprise their was. I'm downloading this update now. I'm a little worry about it cause I also have a Playbook, but I'm willing to take a chance on it as I've never gotten around to install any leak updates. Hopefully this update won't have any I'll effects on my Playbook(mainly tethering).

Thanks for the heads up. I knew this wasnt a new update for the Curve line-up or anything like that. i was mainly worried that VM tried to add some type of null Playbook software. This OTA update just seems a little to close to the Playbooks release.

Cant wait to try this version out because I heard that the battery live in this one is a little better then previous ones.

I hope this means that the VM Curve will get os 6 at some point. Not sure why I'm interested, just curious about new geatures I guess.

Curve 8530/8520 will never get OS 6 but honestly I have a 9330 on sprint and I'm able to have OS 6 trust you are not missing much.. I had to downgrade back to OS 5.0.0.1030 because 6 is so unstable.. Most of my apps don't work and I hate how the icons are much smaller.. Everything is hard to see in the homescreen and universal search the font is really small! IMO OS 6 just doesn't look right on the Curve line.. Its looks ok on the Bolds and wonderful on the Torch.. But to have it on the Curve is pointless.. And yes I know you can download themes but themes still don't fix the browser which is worst trying to read a site you have to zoom in and out and move the screen right to left to read a paragraph that's ridiculous.. OS 5 is perfect..

Personally I didn't care for the .1030 release...I've tried most the OS 5's for my 8530 and pretty much settled on the .886, it just seems to work the best for me and my device, everything thing I want to work...works.

I'm glad you gave me the warning about OS6. I'll be leery of it now lol. The only thing that I really wanted to know if 6 offered was more font sizes. I'd like to have an 18 point version of the BBsans Extra Bold. I know I'm pretty blind lol.

Let me know how this goes! I'm seriously considering the playbook for this feature, and the fact that my iPad is too big to carry around. Might as well just carry a laptop. As far as tethering, that was the *only* feature I liked about the Optimus V android phone, is that they allow themselves to be used as mobile hotspots. I can't stand android os though lol.

A bit odd. Just go to check for updates and it has not found any on Virgin (UK) mobile.

    Still on 5.0.0.681

Any clues where I can get the latest software from if my system will not find it.

    I cannot see 1030?
You don't see a 1030, because you don't have an 8530. 8520 and 8530 use different OS's. I believe the newest "leaked" OS for 8520 is .1067, and the highest for 8530 is .1030.

It's hard to say just what is new with this, I did the update today via wireless update, and it weighed in at 22mb and after updated, did some linking and patching in Java, so maybe some performance tweaks. I'll probably know more after a few weeks of using it.

I've noticed a little more control in the running apps, I don't think it lets as many apps stay open. Also, I noticed the option to have the clock come on when charging really works anymore, though the option is still there in Clock Settings. Beyond that, I can't tell anything different.

What does it mean when you say pushed? Do they force you to update? What if you don't want to update.

That reminds me of an episode of futurama. Bender was afraid of updating because they were brainwashing people.

I think he means it was "Pushed" out the door. AFAIK, no carrier forces updates like that.

They sent the update OTA to their devices starting on that day.
But the Sprint 8530 has since been discounted and replaced with the Curve 3G/9330.

The 8530 is still available on Sprints pre-paid carriers, Virgin Mobile and Boost Mobile.

You can use any OS, as long as it's for the same model that you own.
You just need to delete the vendor.xml file.
