L = icons in L shape on your screen
Today - have preview of calendar entries, messages, emails etc display on screen when icon is highlighted.
Hidden dock - the dock hides, no icons on screen, when not in use.
Zen - icons in a row, could be on left, right , top, bottom of screen.
