    Also from SA. My father has an 8520 and there hasn't been a software update for years. To make sure you can connect the phone to a PC and run BlackBerry Desktop Software. It will check for updates and tell you if there are any updates available.

    BlackBerry have discontinued the BBOS 5.0 for a long time now. About 4 years to be exact. There will be no more updates.

    Best thing to do is to upgrade to a 9720 which runs BBOS 7.1 , you may receive updates for this device but it's also on its way out. About 1 - 2 years left before its discontinued.

    OR

    Upgrade to BlackBerry 10 with a Q5, this is recieviNg updates every 4 months or so. Or better yet, a BlackBerry Classic. Which was released a couple months ago.
