I tried to put a WMV on it and it wouldn't play. Is there a list somewhere of what it will play, or is it only the 3GP?

Also, when I plug it in it asks if I want to use it as mass media device. It has the option to never ask again. If I check that then make a choice, does that mean it will always use that choice or does it just mean it defaults always to some preset default rather than whatever I pick? I'd hope it's the former, but wanted to check.

My 8330 plays 3gp and 3g2 files. Not sure what else it can play.

You can change your mass storage device option in Options -> Media Card. If you tell it not to ask again it will default to your current choice until you change it in options.
