Also in a Blackberry PIN... but you probably knew that already!
I didn't want to make the assumption that the other party has a BB also, but that is
my first choice for people I know who do.

I think you may have missed the point. Every carrier has a character limit for
each individual message, irrespective of how many of them you can string
together.

I have seen a lot of forums talking about a 160 charater limit on the BBY curve but I can't get mine to exceed 50 characters. I've seen discussion about this could be a subject line in the txt but that doesn't appear to be the case. The subject line shows up for MMS, but doesn't for SMS texting. Help!! 50 characters is way to little
Beyond 160 is the best/ most used app i have baught. it only allows you to send 3x160 but its really easy to use. if you reach the limit in a text you just hit the bb menu button and select go beyond, it will copy and paste the text into its own text format.

Actually, there's no limit when using Beyond160. I've sent messages that have spanned well over 15 parts before. Your recipient may not appreciate it, though. There's no limit on the number of recipients, either. Some have reported using Beyond160 for mass broadcasts to groups with over 100 recipients. I haven't tested that myself, though.
Verizon limits text pages to 160. On Blackberrys, you have 160, then you have to start a new text. But on the "regular" phone you have up to 7 pages of 160, but when the person recieves them, it will be broken up in 160. If you need more than 160, use a MMS, it has 1000 characters.
I've been reading other threads about this....does this apply to receiving texts too? I was texting my daughter about her first day at UC today and a lengthy text would be cut off, then a couple of seconds later, I would receive the rest of it in a second message. She doesn't have a blackberry though. She's just using a regular cell phone on T-Mobile.

Waaaay back when(like 2 or 3 years ago...) I was with T-Mo, I had a pink Motorola Razor and I had a 400+ character limit on my text messages. I never thought about limits till I moved over to Sprint and had an LG phone. Then I found out that all their phones had the 160 character limit. Its really weird when my friend(who is also on Sprint) will send a lengthy text and the second half will come through before the first
