I did do a forum search on this. I couldn't find anything...

A few days ago my trackball starting acting up. I would press it to "enter" my selection and it would enter "Q*" it would track left, right, up, & down just fine. The problem was just pressing it. I used the "enter" button on the keypad (the arrow in the bottom right corner) and everything worked fine.

I tried every key to see if there was more problems. The B, N, M and "delete" keys enter strange data - interestingly they enter ws, ed, rf, and tg respecively. When you look at the keyboard, you'll see that the incorrect data for the trackball and for 3 keys in a row along the bottom row of letters enter data is respective to the top 2 keys of the top 2 rows. I know this sound confusing - just look at the keyboard and you'll see what I mean. I press "b" and "ws" is displayed on the screen.

I did a battery pull. No luck, did it again and again and left the battery out for a few minutes. The problem went away and I thought there was perhaps some sort of hardware error. I didn't drop it or get it wet or anything. I just thought this was an isolated incident and was unexplainable.

I cleaned it thoroughly. Replaced the trackball, cleaned up the memory, backed up and restored, and used the device with zero issues for a few days.

Well, it happened again. The EXACT same issue. I did 4 battery pulls and was ready to call in an insurance claim. But, after the last battery pull the problem went away.

I went back through all of the things I've done in the past few days and all I can think of is downloading some ringtones from crackberry. Just in case there was some issue with them, I deleted them. They were stored on my memory card and during one of my battery pulls I took the card out and the problem was still present.

I'm stumped - does this sould like hardware? Do you think it's a bug?

My device is an 8330, running OS 4.5.0.77 I have a LOT of third party apps, but have been using them error free for months.

Any ideas or toubleshooting would be appreciated. Please help.

Has this device gotten wet at all? If not you could back up all your info and third party apps. Then wipe it with jl_cmdr and upgrade the OS. Or use crackmem to wipe and upgrade. Either or.

Yes that is the newest one from verizon. You can still wipe your device then install it again. Get it from here BlackBerry® Software Updates
Or you can use this one. http://forums.crackberry.com/f52/new...evices-208149/ just delete the vendor.xml file. There are instructions on that link I gave you. Take a look at this for more detailed instructions. http://forums.crackberry.com/f95/pro...ocedure-53359/

Before I go thru with the wipe / restore process....

Is your thinking that this is not a hardware problem? Does this sound to you like it's software related?

To me it sounds like a software issue. I would think that if it were hardware related the battery pulls wouldnt have corrected the issue.
