Why would my tackball all of a sudden feel very loose. Sometimes it will not respond to scrolling.

Was the BB dropped?
Maybe the TB assembly is coming out slightly from the "well" it is supposed to sitting in. Is the ring set flush and all the way in the housing?

Reinsert your trackball in the so called "well". You might have to clean any dirt off of the magnetic sensors too.
If that doesn't help, it is probably time to get a new trackball.
