I am new so please bear with me. I was getting email and text notifications in Four places (Messages folder, my Yahoo email folder, my work email folder and my SMS & MMS folder).

I found that you can easily seperate them by doing this.
1) Highlite and click on whichever folder you want to change (for instance your email icon)
2) Click the application button and choose OPTIONS.
3) Select INBOX SETTINGS
4) NOW (right there) you can select whichever (mail or text) that will show up on your icon as a notification.

Now if you get an email for your work email address it wont show up on your SMS & MMS and all your other icons.

I hope this helps someone. It sure made things easier for me.
