ok, so i have a blackberry, obviously i text, A LOT! however, i cant always have my phone out at work but i do have ichat that we use at work. anyone have any ideas on a program (for a mac) to use to be able to text other people's phones from the computer? i know if they have their IM name programmed to their phone it will work, but what about just directly texting to their phone from my computer?? thanks in advance!
I know yahoo can text directly to cell numbers, I use that to talk to my daughter and mom all the time.
i see that option on my yahoo mail page....but when i tried to do it, it seemed that they had to be signed up on windows live or something.....where do i need to look on yahoo?
You can text to yourself and others if you have their cell phone email address. I'm with AT&T and my cell addresss (NOT my device email address) is [email protected]. I've realized that everyone I know with AT&T has this address if you just put their phone number in front of the @mms.att.net. For some reason it's not widely publicized by your carrier.
I know that there are similar addresses for T-Mobile and Verizon customers (I believe Verizon is [cell number]@vtext.com). What you send obviously comes through as an mms text and not sms, at least with AT&T. I use this address sometimes to text myself from my Outlook on my computer instead of emailing my @att.blackberry.net account.

The T-mobile address is [cell number]@tmomail.net. There is also a way to send free sms messages directly from some of the providers' sites. I only know of two: SprintPCS 2Way SMS and T-Mobile SMS
