I recently yesterday ran accross my first EVER problem with my blackberry curve, on the T-Mobile service. Yestrday at about 2pm my service switched from EDGE to GSM. This lil GSM unabled my AIM service, and prevented me to make phone calls, and did not allow others to call me. It even gave me problems sending text messages, often having to resend them several times. Can someone explain to me why this happens on the GSM and how i can prevent it from happening in the future....if this has already been posted I tried searching but I could not find anything related, if it was I apologize for my bad research skills and I Hope someone can help.
I resetted my device a billion times and it still wouldnt leave the GSM setting...so I don't know what else to do in that situation. Also, my apologies for the Tmobile thread not going in the specified spot, however I live in THE OC so I do not know if the Texas thing would affect me, would it?
Try resending your service books from your BIS page (log in to your T-Mobile page, internet mail, resend service books). If that doesn't cure it call T-Mobile, something may have gotten goofed up.
As T-Mobile rolls out their 3G upgrade they take the towers down for maintenance. GSM effectively means you do not have data coverage this all your data related services were not going to work. In Minneapolis here a few weeks ago we were without EDGE service for two days in the city. Now why they did that on a work day is beyond me but stopping at a T-Mobile store told me that I was not the only one impacted as the beleaguered CSR said the city was down for the upgrade. I guess a few people were quite more upset than I was. There is not way to avoid it, check with CS and see if its your area or you phone. My guess is its the area you are in and you just have to live with it as its part of their maintenance.
Also this is not a T-Mobile issue, ALL carriers have scheduled/unscheduled outages from time to time. They are usually minimal in occurrence and duration.

I would concur with pltaylor. My services dropped to GSM last night. It's back to EDGE now though. So I would assume it was just scheduled maintenance.
