I spoke to a Blackberry Rep a few days ago who came into our store. He said that the t-mobile curve DOES have GPS it just is not enabled. He could not tell me how because its a violation of blackberry's company policy, DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO UNLOCK/ENABLE IT?????

Hmmm... That would be intersting. I would think that BB could only fit one chip either gps or wifi, if it has both then I don't know why one carrier would only choose to have one enabled. So along those lines we can enable wifi on at&t?

Just a follow up I've been in IS for 10+ years. I've met a ton of company reps who really don't know much about their own products. As stated take with a grain of salt. Plus with the interests in BB I would think someone wouldve unlocked it by now.

The device has no internal GPS to utilize, unlike how VZW locked theirs out, the rep was either..

Full of it, Knew nothing about the products or just trying to sound like he actually knew something because his pay cheques say RIM on them.

He definitely was pulling your leg or very mis-informed. If you take your BB apart, look for the GPS receiver!

There is no way to unlock it has no GPS. If you would like wifi get one of the free refurb 8310 from ATT or get a GPS puck. By the way I ordered one of the ATT refurbs on Thursday got it yesterday works great. SO now I have the 8310 and 8320.

If he got it on the 24th, free, which he did (thursday). I on the other hand got it 45 minutes late and paid $50 w/ a $25 credit for my employment/order online and it came out to $27 with tax.

I was told(actually, think I read it in PC Magazine) that every up to date phone had a gps chip for emergency situations, missing persons and the like, that can be activated remotely.

I agree about Google maps using triangulation with cell towers. Its not exact, but within 1700 meters or so. Not bad for free!!!!

Maybe they referred to the triangulation tecnique used by google. Or the gps in phones for finding location are rudimentary but still they should allow consumers to use them.
