So I had the problem with my BB showing 1 unread but I couldn't find the unread message anywhere. Did all the steps provided in other threads, but no help. Battery Pulls/Soft Reboots would work for a limited time only. Theme changing did nothing. Settings were all correct.

So this solution may only apply to a very specific case:

1) You push Gmail (might apply to non-gmail) to your BB
2) You send an email from your BB to another BB user.
3) That user has their "Confirm Read" setting on, and you have your "Confirm Delivery" on.

What happens, is if you go into your gmail, you'll find an email back fromt hat person saying "your message was delivered to the recipient". This email will not show up in your push email box on your BB. Delete this email, and your notification will go away. You can also try turning off your "Confirm Delivery" setting.

I didnt find this explanation in any of the other threads. i hope this helps even one other person. Others may be able to extrapolate a more complete solution from this.
