maybe your Blackberry attachment service is not working properly, i had to do a whole os restore when i accidently deleted mine could not open any pictures or media files in mesages

is memory free around 8000000 is good or bad?

Thats low memory free, try not to let it drop below 12,xxx,xxx

Do a battery pull, its like a computer reboot for your phone, leave the battery about for about 30 sec, after it loads again check the file free..

Delete all your old SMS in and outbox, phone log, clear your browser cache..
