Only advice I have is to make sure Russian language is enabled on your phone.
Open Desktop Manager
Start Application Loader
Under section Languages and Input Support - do you see your language listed? If you do- place checkmark behind it and OK all prompts.
oooh. I haven't used the desktop manager in years. Not finding anything on it about languages but I can see russian cyrillic and a russian spell checker installed in the phone.
emails come across the phone in one or both languages just fine. It's rare for me to get a text in Russian. Maybe this is the first time. It's kind of expensive for him, usually he uses a computer.
I guess I'll have to poke about. Unfortunately I live in the land of no service so I can't test.
