I'm a first time BB user and just got a BB8330 from Sprint, which I'm loving. I wanted to know (if anyone knows) if there is a way to add more smileys to the BB messenger?

No not to the BBM app there is not. There is an app called Berricons that let's you add more emoticons for texting. Here's the link if you are interested...
