    If you go to the Home screen and start typing a name (even if some of the keys you're pressing contain numbers as well as letters), your BlackBerry will automatically work out who in your address book you want to call, and either highlight them or list them at the bottom of the screen (depending on how many letters you type)...

    This is Smart Dialing.

    Oh yeah, you can configure Smart Dialing by going to:

    Phone-->Options-->Smart Dialing

    Smart Dialing also allows you to specify other options to enhance dialling numbers including specifying your local country code (it's +1 for North America), your local area code, the length of telephone numbers in your country and a few other options that are self-explanatory...

    The way I use smart dialing is by adding a pause after a 10digit # followed by the ext#. This is very useful for voicemail, and any calles that requires users to enter # followed by the intial prompt. Never have to enter ext# again.
