I'm trying to save a text document sent to me, but don't see an option to do so. Am I blind or is it not possible, even with a media card?

Was it sent in your email? You should be able to save it via your menu...I've done it more than once.

Yep, it was. I've tried to save it via the menu and tried saving it while viewing it. No save option is visible.

Depending on the type of document, you can simply open it, then hit menu>download. You will then be prompted on where to save it.
