My wife has problems clicking with the rollerball on her 8310. I have cleaned the ball and sometimes it will click and sometimes it won't. Do i need to replace the ball assemby or is the clickk function in another part of the bb.
I am just wondering if there is an easy fix for this or do I need to replace the phone?

Unfortunately the click part of pressing a trackball has little to do with the trackball itself other than to transfer pressure to the mothboard underneath.

Unless there is load of crud under the trackball, and you can check this when you prize the trackball assembly out, then the problem is a small pressure pad directly under the center of the ball.

If you press this, do not use a sharp object, it should click gently. If it does not, then you will need to have the phone repaired by a specialist repair shop. This happened to one of my Blackberrys and I sent it to PDA Repair World - A full line of RIM BlackBerry repair services and BlackBerry parts for all BlackBerry handheld devices who fixed it very quickly but were not cheap.

    Good luck.

If it is still under Warranty - you've had it less than a year, your provider will replace the device. Call them.

when comparing it to my 8800, its a big difference.

just goes to show how much i use it i suppose.

The clicking has nothing to do with the trackball. The part responsible for all your clicking is the little square copper piece right on your motherboard under the trackball. That little copper piece is a sticker dome that makes the actual click. You might need to replace that part. Here is the link to get them:
