Under settings there is basically low, medium, and high. The low is still too loud - is there a way to manual adjust the volume level?

I agree, the 8310 from AT&T is too loud on the lowest setting. Likewise the alarm clock is too loud too on low. I hope this is fixed in the next OS. As far as i know there is no "hack" that will allow changing the lowest setting other than installing a newer OS. Some have reported that 4.5 lowers the volume.

Must be particular to AT&T cause the low setting with the 8310 on T-Mobile UK IS low!

SO there is no help for us? It is seriously way too loud - to the point I expect it to blow out my speaker! Irritating!!

update to 4.5 os the volume level is WAY TOO LOW!!!!!!!!

Make your own ringer on your computer and use MP3Gain to increase the volume all you want.
