Just got my Curve 8330 after years w/Qphone (absolutely awful) and was excited to be able to use the Curve in the grocery store but inside the store I couldn't hold a signal. Standing right next to me was a guy and lady with AT&T BB's and they had perfect reception. My provider is Verizon. Is there a way, other than going to AT&T, to somehow use AT&T signal or something so I can get reception?

Have you tried *228 yet? I get signal with my curve that I never got with my other phones.

    Putttn,

Sorry to tell you this but there is no way to harness AT&T's signal. Verizon Wireless and AT&T use different air interface technologies. Verizon uses CDMA, and AT&T uses GSM.

Looks like I'll be moving over to AT&T (on 30 day new customer period). Too bad as I've always had good experience with Verizon. What does *228 do?

Putttn, *228 updates your phone's roaming service (aka PRL)

How long did you say you were with Verizon?

The last two nigts I've had the same problem. Either I'll loose just my data or i'll loose the phone and data.

I've tried *228 but the problems persist. Is Verizon having some sort of network problem?

for the data issue, you may want to retry the register now. I have also seen when a security wipe can fix both issues, then reprogram by *228 opt 1 and register now. I have also seen where for some reason that a phone will get another carriers tower, which might mean the device needs to be replaced. keep in mind dthat a wipe will remove all data from your device so m ake sure you have a good back up first.

Dude, definitely try the *228 thing, I do it like once a month just to be safe, it's free and takes like 45 seconds! It would suck to cancel your contract and switch all your numbers and tell everyone your new number, if it was such an easy fix!

That's odd. I have had verizon for 4 years and never had bad service.
When you do *228 do you reset your phone after? You're supposed to most phones will reset automatically but these don't. I would suggest to do *228 then take your batt out and see if that works.
Or you can just return it and get another curve. It could be the phone and I believe the 30 day new customer thing you can return the phone for any reason so try that.

Also, your 8330 Curve has a 1 year warranty for any defects. Sounds like there may be a defect. I would try this before I switched to AT&T. Also you can try a power reset. Take out the battery and hold the power on key for 10 seconds. This works on Laptops as well.
