Is there anything I can do to receive picture messages, every time I get one I have to log onto the computer to see them

check your settings for MMS.
go to options > MMS > Multimedia Reception: ALWAYS ; Automatic Retrieval: ALWAYS

Hey, do you mind sharing the answer here, or maybe pointing me in the direction of where it is?

I tried above, but it doesn't have MMS listed in options on my 8830

If you are having trouble getting Picture Messages to work, the basic troubleshooting step is as follows:

1. Send yourself 2 picture messages using the 1+area code+555-5555. One to activate the service, two to make sure it works on your device.

2. Check your messages. You should see them. 90% of the time it fixes the issue of recieved picture messages showing "to view this picture you must log onto myalbum blah blah blah"
