I updated my 8310 BB to 4.5 following the instructions I received from the forum..........ran without a problem. I had further instructions to back up my 3rd party apps from forums on crackberry. Everything running smooth until I get to number 12. where it's asking me to search folders/files for PIN I found what I thought was it but it looks like the information from default apps now I am in the middle of this process and I am not sure what to do next. Crackberry community I need you!
It should be a file folder named with your BB's PIN. If you made the right selections in Desktop Manager, then this will contain your 3rd party apps. (when searching for it, be sure to look in System folders, and Hidden folders). Then copy this file to wherever you want - I just put it on my desktop.
i was following a url but i can't type it because I have not put out enough post but it says
Connect BB
Open DM
Select - Switch Device Manager
Select- Switch BB Devices
Select- Next
Select-USB PIN
Select- Next if it you don't have to put in password
Uncheck User Data & Settings include Messages
Select- Next
(this is where it gets tricky for me)
When done backing up leave screen(Do not select Next or Cancel)
Search folders/files with PIN#
Copy & Save making sure folder is saved
And this is where I am having a problem because the only folder I found with my PIN seems to have my default settings when I did the upgrade to 4.5?
I keep my app information (emails with pins etc) in my email on my laptopk and those that were zip files, in a folder on my laptop, luckily Ive only had to manually install them once due to a problem I had, if worse comes to worse, you can just manually install them, time consuming, but...
So far my 3rd party apps are intact....is it truly necessary for me to do this...I don't want to risk messing up anything and what is the wipe device with JL installer? is that necessary also?
Backing up 3rd party apps and wiping with JL are not necassary, but a lot of people recommend them both. I usually do the 3rd party backup only right before an upgrade, but have never had to use it. (knock wood) The DM actually does a wipe of the device as part of the actual upgrade, so I've personally never bothered with that step.
I decided not to do the backup for the apps; it gave me a scare. If anything happens to them I will just have to take that chance. With that said thank you; I guess I had a berry attack !
