For install instruction to load any carrier 8300 OS on your BB:
1. Back up data on Desktop Manager under Back up/restore option
2. Back up your 3rd party apps. Instructions here--> http://forums.crackberry.com/f3/how-...cations-53201/
3. Disconnect your BB from Desktop Manager
4. Download desired OS to your PC
5. Install/run OS to PC
6. Delete vendor.xml file. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
7. Connect BB to Desktop Manager and it should prompt the upgrade. If not click app loader and that should initialize it.
8. Do not unplug BB during the process. It will take around 30-60 minutes to complete upgrade.
First attmept at OS upgrade on Curve VZ 8330.....computer savvy.
downloaded and installed software, all went well, deleted vendor file, started BB Dektop and nothing ! No "prompt to upgrade", nothing when i went to app loader ! Rebooted and tried again. Nothing. Regular sync functions of Desktop continue to work well etc.
what's next ?
what if this doesn't work at all and now I've deleted the vendor.xml file ? what do i lose ?
thanx
my bad ! in my zeal to upgrade, downloaded the 8300 update instead of the 8330 !! 0(
This time with the right download all went smoothly as silk with Verizon Curve 8330 ! no problems and works great ! Forge ahead man !
I used (a while ago) to work as a product manager for RIM at T-Mobile UK. I upgraded many different devices there, and since. Only ever unrecoverably bricked one or two, which I put down to hardware failure.
Not had a problem with my own devices, currently a 8300, which I just upgraded from .53 to .55 (having originally upgraded between 4.x versions when I got it)
I want to upgrade so bad, but stories like this make me nervous.
Any 8300's owners out there who can share their experience?
Seems like the only issue somebody had on this OS was trying to upgrade this on the wrong Curve. If you upgrade and dont like, you can always downgrade.

Indeed, I think they clarified that as well in this thread somewhere.
I'm DL this, but I will wait until Tuesday afternoon before spending the two or three hours it takes me to make sure I do the upgrade RIGHT. Once I do, I'll post my results.

I too was nervous at first but I had the time and saw that it was only 8 steps so I said why not!! I didn't have any problems whatsoever! Just make sure you have a minimum of 1.5 hours to do it and take your time. It's well worth it.
Hey there, if you want the newest "official" OS, be prepared for the following: you may have to remove some themes and some other 3rd party apps. Your sh!t will freeze while upgrading if you do not. I went through two Beta upgrades (4.5) with zero problems, but the actual "official multi-language?" That caused heart burn.
