    Package Version: 4.5.0.255
    Consisting of:

    * Applications: 4.5.0.162
    * Software Platform: 2.7.0.103
    * File name: 8320EastAsia_PBr4.5.0_rel255_PL2.7.0.103_A4.5.0.16 2_Vodafone_Essar_Limited__for_Hutch_Essar_devices_ .exe
    * File size: 88.77MB

    Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

    * Download Software: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...DF29596708C94B

    This download is from Vodafone Essar Limited but will work on ANY carrier's 8300 model BB. (Not 8310, 8320 or 8330)

    1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded. (Vista users be sure to right click on the .exe file and select "Run As Adminstrator.")
    2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
    3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

    The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
    If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

    You need to click the link on the first page that says:

    For handheld downloads, if the handheld device displays "Vodafone" on the endcap, please download at Vodafone Essar carrier download site.

    That will allow you to get to the download that you seek.

    Hopefully I can get a little clarification from someone.

    Someone sent a colleague in my office a link for him to upgrade his BBM to the 5.0. He did and well now its missing completely.

    I looked at his phone for him and he is still running an old OS 4.2.2.141 on the 8300. The guy lives in Cyprus and I believe that Vodafone is the carrier on the island.

    My question is, can I upgrade that phone to the 4.5 version listed in this thread. There are a few versions that get displayed once you pick the model. ie 4.5 or 4.2 or eastasia or chineese or etc etc.

    I have also read your comments about the "endcap" Can you explain what is meant by this. The endcap of the phone case?

    I have a short window to repair his phone tomorrow morning before he flys home, I would like to upgrade it or at least install the version of BBM that was on their before.

    Thank you for any assistance with my questions,
    Bill

    The platform is a rollback, while the systems are an upgrade. Use loader.exe found here:

    And choose the second selection to downgrade. It will in fact be an upgrade, with the exception of the platform.

    So what all does this change? I had the 8310 with 4.2 and upgraded to 4.5 and loved the differences... but now I have the 8300, and I was wondering if the changes will be the same?

    If your 8300 is on 4.2, you will see the same changes you did with your 8310. Email in html, faster browsing, youtube, explore function in media, better radio signal to name a few.
