Hey guys, I just switched from the Blackberry Pearl, to the Verizon curve.

One shortcut I miss is the lock function.

Is there any key that will lock my phone like I used to have on the Pearl?

I know, there is a Lock Icon, but I'm a creature of habit...

    Thanks!

You can assign your convenience key in the options screen/keyboard to use the lock.

You can look around for the 'autolock' program, it's great for people who want to put their bb in their pocket/purse without worrying about keys being pushed. Look around the forums for it, it's a free program

Just press the mute button on the top of your Curve. Puts it in standby. Press mute again to unlock. Will also unlock automatically when a call comes in.
BTW, enjoy your Curve I loved my Pearl, but the Curve blows it awaaay!

Yup, that's the best way to do it, saves battery more than the other options.

Exactly right, that truly is the best option. I only started using this recently, and I am amazed I went so long without using standby!
