    Newest Curve 8300 OS from SmarTone-Vodafone - v4.2.2.265 / 4.2.2.146

    Download it from HERE

    Instructions for installing:

    1. Make sure you have the latest version of Desktop Manager installed. It's 4.2 SP2.
    2. Download the above file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded. (Choose the Curve 8300)
    3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
    4. Plug in BB and Open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.

Have some patience, this will take 30-60 minutes to complete. DO NOT unplug the device until it is finished!

Follow this thread if you want to unlock all vendor themes.

The carriers get release notes from RIM but usually they choose not to distribute them to us.

Chinese is one of the supported languages. The default will be English, and you'll have an opportunity to select when you fire up the executable on your PC.

Latest I have seen is 4.2.2.146 / platform 2.4.0.62 - I'd love to find a later one that includes the newer Media Player that is included with the 8320, but I haven't seen that yet for the 8300. (new media player on the 8320 from TMo supports playlists & genres, among other improvements).

I don't think it will load...but the word is that the T-Mobile release of OS 4.3 was supposed to happen last night at midnight. Didn't happen, but the rumor persists that it is about to happen. Also not sure if this means that they'll release a version for the 8300 as well as 8320 -- but all us 8300 owners can hope...

Also guessing that this means we'll start seeing 4.3 for 83xx from various vendors any day now, making it pretty much generally available.

I have an unlocked Rogers 8310. It currently has v4.2.2.163 (Platform 2.5.0.24). I installed the new software onto my computer, but Desktop Manager never prompts me to upgrade. I also tried to load the T-Mobile 8320 software, but Desktop Manager won't let me do that one either. I deleted all the _vendorids from the Blackberry file.

What am I doing wrong? I really want the My Faves T-Mobile program to work on this phone.

EDIT: I manually ran the App Loader instead of using Desktop Manager. It let me install the software that way. It is almost done.

Has anyone ever had one of these OS upgrades freeze during the process? BB Desktop froze at the Calendar update stage with the progress bar about halfway complete. When I looked at the BB Curve (8300 AT&T), it had a small application error with a reset button selected. After waiting 60 minutes, as advised, I pulled the battery and rebooted the device. All the data is intact, but I can't get the phone to turn on. Going to try another update with BB Desktop and see if that fixes.

Suggest we upgrade this thread, or terminate and replace with one pointing to the Singapore Telecom version with 4.2.2.173 (platform 2.4.0.76) -- pretty sure it's in package 4.2.2.314. I've been using that one for several days, and it's a pleasure!

UI response is noticeably faster, icon folders work, and don't disappear (making internal icons invisible) -- I can finally organize my desktop nicely with icons!. Battery life seems better with this version as well. All in all, a big improvement.
