Enjoying my BB. Was a faithful Treo suscriber for years. Wondering why the illumination changes on my screen so much. For no good reason it will go from bright to dim ...... with no change in ambient light.

Do you want a technical answer or a simple answer?

Basically, there is a light sensor behind the LED window. If you cover the window with your finger, the screen and backlight will get get dimmer, uncover the window and expose to bright light, and the screen gets brighter.

However, as you have observed, the BB will basically dim and brighten without rhyme or reason as well.

Yeah I've had my Curve since December and its seems to do this all the time even if the light doesn't change......

I figure what the heck just let it do what it wants right? I mean it is a smartphone

My dad has an 8700 and his does this ALL the time, I used his a lot before getting my Curve and I was surprised when mine didn't do the same thing. I guess some BBs do it.
