My blackberry phone won't turn on and when I try charging the battery it shows a picture of a battery with a lightning zap across it. Does that mean the battery is dead? Thanks

It means there is not enough power to start up, but it may be the discharged state of the battery. If you let it go completely dead, it takes at least an hour before it has enough charge to start up correctly.

Remove the battery and inspect the 4 Gold contact points. Clean them with a pink rubber eraser. Inspect the 4 contacts inside too, they should all be aligned with the contact patches.

start up need more energy ... let it charge for a while, at least half of it charged.
