They all use a MicroSD card and have the following maximum card GB capacities:
BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.0 Up to 2GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.1 Up to 4GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.2 Up to 4GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.3.0 Up to 8GB
If you are considering a 4GB or larger card, you need to consider that HC cards have compatibility issues with older devices. Be sure your blackberry says it is compatible with microSDHC. You may also have to purchase a microSDHC reader to use the card with your computer. Pete6 has done the research for you here: http://forums.crackberry.com/f2/micr...c-cards-46673/
oops - sorry meant 8310 - i found os - it's 4.2.2.170 so it looks like 4gig is right - what is most recent final os? did i read something about 4.5 somewhere? is it final and if so, how do I get it?
No it's not for Vodaphone only.
It can be installed on any carrier,
but may put your warranty at risk,
as it is not an AT&T official release.
As to your necessary question, no it isn't
necessary. But if you are new to this I'd
suggest getting to know how your phone
works first. And this would be a good place
to start.

I'm using a vzn 8830WE w/ OS v. 4.2.2.196 and it reads my microSD 8GB w/ no problem. Copied about 4 G of tunes and have more storage than my son's ipod.

That is correct. Verizon's recent 4.2.2.196 release is an exception to the general rule that Garz quoted. It's the only exception, to my knowledge.
