I have been trying to get my phone to ring while plugged into the USB data cable.

My issue is that I have deleted the media file that contains the default ringtones, so while on USB no default to play so I don't hear incoming call.

Is there a hack or other way to get a ringtone into the samples\ringtones folder?

I know the name of the default ringer but can not copy the file there.

I know that this is the location that the default ringer is pulled from. When it is empty, I have no option to paste the files there and when I put the defaults back through DM, The folder is protected and I can not paste the file there.

Add a ringtone to your media card. I don't use the default tones at all.

The op is trying to get it into the sample folder. Not on the media card.

I don't want all those useless OS ringtones. Thus the reason for removing them through DM.

While plugged into the USB cable there is no option to choose a different ringtone. So with no OS defaults installed, my phone is silent when I receive a call.

The best bet will be for you to just reload your OS. that is the only way to get music under your sample folder. No ways around it.

Is there a way to rebuild a COD file with just one ringer in it?

Not unless you have access to BlackBerry source code.

I have considered it, but recommend leaving it installed because it is so intimately associated with Profiles. The file is not that big in the first place.
