I just did a back up and a message said there was an update to the OS system and Applications. So I pressed next and I started the update. I did not add any new apps. and I didn't check any boxes to add anything.

About 45 min later it finished and I went from 25899267 to 20612872. it shows file total of 54919168 which stayed the same.
Now I also put a 1 gig media card in and moved 6 pictures onto it prior to doing the upgrade. I got a couple of more bytes but nothing to talk about.

The OS system is still v4.2.2.170(platform 2.5.0.30)
    Crypto Kernel v 3.8.4.47

All I really have installed is
    BB 4.2 Core App
    BB 4.2 System
    BB Attachment
    BB Maps 1.2.26
    Browser
    Help
    Memo Pad
    Opera Mini 4.1
    Phone
    PW keeper
    TTY Support
    Tasks
    Yahoo Go 2.0.69
    Yahoo Messenger 2.0.43

I did a code Optimization a while back also Can't figure out what was added

    Try upgrading to .194
Also if you haven't already, on your BB open Media Player, select options set device memory limit to 12, and set reserved picture memory to zero.

Yep... done that. Works like a charm. Also removing as many 3rd party apps as possible and/or closing them out when your done using them. Hitting the hang up key doesn't close apps out as they still run in the background. I actually sent my left convenience key as "application switcher" and verify which apps are still open and either 'exit' or 'close' out of them.
