Is there a way to lock the keypad without going through the menu to the keypad button. Like the pearl you could just press the * key down for a couple of seconds and it would lock. Thanks, any other cool shortcuts would be helpful too.

On the top of the Curve there is a silver button. Its actually the Mute button. If you hold it in for a few seconds it will lock the keyboard.

That actually puts the phone in stand-by mode - any other suggestions?
Thanks!
I'm watching this thread for an answer too. I keep calling people from my purse.
Press alt and enter...
Works on 8330 figured it out by accident, what a happy accident!

you rock! thanks :)
The only potential issue I’ve found with the Alt + Enter keypad lock shortcut on the 8330 is if you have more than one input language on your device. If this is the case, the default Alt + Enter shortcut will be to change the input language, not lock the keypad.
To correct this, go to: Option > Language > and select No for “Use Input Language Shortcut”
Ya I only got one language... But thanks homie!

oh i just configured the left smart button to lock my keypad. so every time i press it it locks the keypad.
this also was something I liked about my pearl, but with the above tip (thank you very much) I set up my left button to lock the key pad. thanks again.
Turn off dialing from the home screen and the letter K will be key lock.
